Ready
to begin with your own plumbing jobs? Do you know where to start or how to
begin? Do you know what equipment and techniques will work for your next task?
Well, the tips that are listed below may be the very ones that you need.
Do
not try to sell a product that you do not agree with. This includes paying
attention to the company itself and their values and policies. If you have any
qualms about the company, your customers will pick up on it. You want to be a
full supporter of the product you are selling
Before
starting any plumbing project,
be sure to turn off the main water supply. Water damage can be one of the most
expensive things to repair. To minimize damage turn the main water supply off
as well as any shut off valves near where you are working. This will save a
great deal of hardship later on.
Act
quickly if your pipes freeze! Shut off the water and open the faucet, enabling
it to drain when it thaws. Starting with the faucet, and working your way to
the iced-up area, aim a propane torch or hairdryer at the pipe - this will
quickly defrost it. You could also wrap the pipe in a heating pad or aim a heat
lamp at it, but this will take quite some time. A last resort is to wrap the
pipe in rags and pour boiling water over it.
Put
the strainer on top of drains to catch any food that would go down and cause a
clog. Your kitchen sink strainer needs cleaning every time something big gets
stuck in it. Bathtubs should be equipped with strainers as well, and they too
will need to be cleaned regularly.
In
order to ensure that your garbage disposal will last for as long as your home,
keep it clean on a regular basis. Using lemon rinds and cherry pits mixed with
dish soap will help keep your garbage disposal operating efficiently and
smelling fresh.
If
your plumbing is making strange noises you may have lost something called your
"air cushion". To turn this back on, you're going to need to turn off
your main water supply. Run all faucets in your house and then turn back on
your main water supply. This should make everything sound better again.
Never
hire a plumber that is not licensed,
insured and bonded. If the plumbing company cannot provide you with reference
numbers for their credentials, move on quickly. It is a common question and it
should be a no-brainer for them to provide them to you. If they have issues
with you asking, take that as a big red flag.
To
prevent pipe banging when you turn on the water, think about rubber blankets or
straps. Instead of assuming the pipes need replaced, consider anchoring them or
buffering them. If your pipes are plastic, leave them some room for expansion
and contraction. If pipes do not leak but just make noise, eliminate the noise.
